System Of A Down Gets Grammy Nomination

(Combined Sources)–System Of A Down was nominated for a Grammy Award Thursday for Best Hard Rock Performance for their single “B.Y.O.B.” off their album Mezmerize. Mezmerize was released on May 17, 2005 and debuted at number one.

“B.Y.O.B.” [Bring Your Own Bombs] is the first single off Mezmerize. The song questions the ongoing war in Iraq and President’s Bush involvement in it. The song asks repeatedly, “Why don’t presidents fight the war?/ Why do they always send the poor?/ Why do they always send the poor?”

System has been nominated for the Grammy’s twice before. Their single “Chop Suey!” was nominated for Best Metal Performance in 2002 and “Aerials” was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2003. Both singles were off the album Toxicity.

Considering their track record, one can only guess whether System Of A Down members will attended the Grammy’s; they previously turned down an invitation to perform “Aerials” at the Awards, with Daron Malakian guitarist/singer, commenting, “that’s something NSYNC and Britney Spears do, not System Of A Down.”
