Armenia Presents IPAP To NATO

Yerevan, December 9, Armenpress: Armenian foreign ministry said today that deputy foreign minister Arman Kirakosian and deputy defense minister Arthur Aghabekian participated today in Brussels in the sitting of NATO’s Political Committee and Political-Military Committee in the format of 26+1.

It said Kirakosian presented the final and reconciled Armenia’s Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) with NATO, which was followed by discussions and exchange of views. The ministry said the IPAP was approved by NATO’s committees after Armenian officials offered explanations on a set of issues. It said the committees decided to submit IPAP to North-Atlantic Council’s approval.

Earlier this year on June 16 Armenian foreign minister Vartan Oskanian had submitted the draft IPAP to NATO in the presence of ambassadors of 26 NATO-member states.

IPAP is a document on Armenia-NATO relations, which will serve as a guideline for future actions. The document offers three main directions of cooperation. The first calls for putting Armenia-NATO consultations on a more institutional basis, the second calls for reforms in Armenia’s defense system and the third is about Armenia’s participation in NATO’s peacekeeping operations.
