ARMENIAN PM WRAPS UP HIS VISIT TO EGYPT

CAIRO, DECEMBER 8, ARMENPRESS: A permanent exhibition of the ancient Armenian manuscripts will be opened in Alexandria’s well-known library, Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Margarian told today after the visit to the library.

The prime minister presented to the library the photo-facsimile variant of the Evangel of the year of 989. After the exhibition dedicated to the 1600th anniversary of the creation of the Armenian letters which will kick off February 7-25 the 6 photo-facsimile options of the 18 presented manuscripts will be presented to the library.

The director of the library Ismail Serageldin presented to the prime minister the history and present possibilities of the library. The library has more that 400,000 books-manuscripts. The oldest one belongs to the year of 978 and the oldest printed book to 1482. After the Californian library here is the second digital archive where 28 million books are kept. The library has 750,000 visitors and 200,000 readers annually.

During the days of the exhibition dedicated to the Armenian manuscripts “Matenadaran and Armenian Scientists” conference will be organized. The Armenian delegation headed by the prime minister also visited today the Armenian Patriarchate in Alexandria and met with the representatives of the local Armenian community and by this wrapped up his 4-day state visit to Egypt.
