PRIME MINISTER OF EGYPT: ARMENIAN-EGYPTIAN RELATIONS SPECIAL

YEREVAN, December 7. /ARKA/. Relations between Armenia and Egypt always had special character; Prime Minister of Egypt Ahmad Nazif said during his meeting with RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan, press-service of the RA Government reports. According to him, these relations are based not only on bilateral cooperation at high political level, but also conditioned with common approach to issues related to Middle East and the South Caucasus, as well as readiness to support each other at international arena.

Nazif pointed out that Armenia always expressed its solidarity with all-Arabian positions and voted for candidates proposed by Egypt at various bodies of the UN. Moreover in the context of UN reformation, Armenia is ready to support Egypt’s striving for becoming permanent member of the UN Security Council. Speaking about the Armenian-Egyptian relations, Nazif pointed out that current development of centuries old relations, “existing since the times of Pharaohs”, is also promoted by efforts of the Armenian community of Egypt. Nazif also highly evaluated activities of the Armenian community of Egypt. According to Nazif, just after Armenia’s declaring its independence, Egypt established diplomatic relations and opened its Embassy in Armenia, and further cooperation was developing within the Fund for Cooperation with CIS countries.

He also said that current economic cooperation between two countries does not comply with high level of political cooperation. “There are not mutual investments at all, and they should be promoted”, Nazif said. According to him, priority fields of cooperation are agriculture, healthcare, tourism and information technologies. He pointed out that IT is one of priorities of Egypt’s economy. A.A. -0–
