YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS: The amount of investments in Armenian mining industry is set to make $70 million this year. Arthur Ashughian, a senior official of the trade and economic development ministry, predicted yesterday a 17 percent growth in the sector from a year ago.
Speaking at a news conference, he said in terms of money the growth is likely to amount to 30 percent and exports will be up 30-40 percent. He said a concession agreement will be signed this year with Armenian AGRD gold mining company which produces annually around 2 tons of gold. He said another metallurgical plant, called Makoor Yerkat, will secure 50 percent growth. In general, he said, all metallurgical plants will post significant rise in production volumes this year.
He also said the privatization deal of Zangezour metallurgical plant was recognized as one of the best privatization deals in this sector by a mining summit late last month in London.
