YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 30. ARMINFO. Leader of Heritage party, Head of the Center for National and International Studies (CNIS) Raffi Hovannisian, was searched at the airport “Zvartnots”, Wednesday. He was suspected in concealing documents of state secrecy.
The CNIS press-service told ARMINFO that R. Hovannisian was detained in the course of boarding by a national security agent of Armenia Arsen Poghosyan, who is in charge of the airport security. Hovannisian was interrogated about the goals of his trip, the RA Constitution and other question bearing no relations with the security of the airport. His luggage was searched thoroughly. Among the documents found was a bill on the Constitution of Armenia prepared by the Heritage party, publications of the CNIS, as well as a draft letter to RA President Robert Kocharyan. A. Poghosyan invited Customs Agent Karen Petrosyan, who instructed finding out if Raffi Hovannisian violated the customs legislation of the country. For this purpose, Hovannisian’s documents were studied in detail again. Finding nothing, A. Poghosyan demanded that the letter to RA president is copied. In his turn, R. Hovannisian came out against it and demanded his documents back. He also demanded a relevant official document on the basis of which he was detained and searched. Only after this, R. Hovannisian was allowed to fly.
