/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The tendency towards strengthening US-Armenian relations can hamper development of Armenian-Russian cooperation, political scientist, professor of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian MFA Igor Panarin stated in the course of Armenia-Russia: a View of the Future: Cooperation Technologies conference November 29. “Russia is concerned with latest visit of Armenian MOD head to the US on the initiative of the US Ambassador,” Panarin said. In his words, it is remarkable that “the incumbent Armenian President has never paid official visits to the US.” In the political scientist’s opinion, US has activated its policy in Armenia just after the beginning of the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. “The Transnational British-American capital has started active flow to the region and its task is to force out Russia from here,” said Panarin. In his words, US information expansion became abruptly activated after the appointment of a State Department professional – John Evans – as US Ambassador in Yerevan.
“The new building of the US Embassy in Yerevan is one of the biggest in the world among those with the same destination. The fact that instead of the 40 marines that are able to secure the building 400 are planned to be situated there,” Panarin said. In his words, “that detachment can easily destabilize the situation in Yerevan if necessary.” “November 28, 2005 the US Ambassador to Armenia already presented the package of projects on arrangement of the elections in 2007 and 2008 and these financial proposals totaling $6 million are already approved by the US Congress. To strengthen its positions in the Transcaucasian region, that country is trying to destabilize the political situation in Armenia,” the Russian political scientist is sure. In his opinion, “it is important that the referendum on the constitutional amendments on November 27 was held in a relatively stable situation.” “It was due to the wisdom of the Armenian political elite,” Panarin believes. “Further Armenian-Russian cooperation provides for the need of prevention of any opportunity of destabilization in Armenia.
