YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 29, NOYAN TAPAN. The opposition rally near Yerevan Matenadaran having gathered nearly 10 thousand people was interrupted for several times because of technical reasons and lasted for nearly 2 hours. Executive Secretary of the Zharangutiun (Heritage) party Vardan Khachatrian, Chairman of the People’s Party Stepan Demirchian, Chairman of the Union of National Democrats party Arshak Sadoyan, Chairman of the Democratic Homeland party Petros Makeyan spoke at the rally. Chairman of the National-Democratic Union Vazgen Manukian called on those present at the rally to achieve cancellation of the results of the constitutional referendum and then resignation of President Robert Kocharian but the main purpose for the Armenian people must be to build the Fourth Republic (by the Third Republic they mean the current Republic of Armenia: “NT”). The rally participants treated the estimation given to the constitutional referendum in Armenia by the Bureau on European and Eurasian Affairs of US State Department with great inspiration. Chairman of the Hanrapetutiun (Republic) party Aram Sargsian who spoke at the end of the rally declared that he greets all the participants of the rally who came against the closed roads and numerous intimidations by the law-enforcement bodies. He said that the united opposition put forward a demand to the Central Electoral Commission to cancel the results of the constitutional referendum within 72 hours. Aram Sargsian declared that after the cancellation of the results of voting and removal of Robert Kocharian, which, according to him, must take place in consequence of a democratic revolution, his goal will be to establish and build the Fourth Republic in Armenia. According to Aram Sargsian, a critical mass of participants at opposition’s rallies is necessary for ensuring the success of the democratic revolution, which hasn’t been achieved yet. The next rally of the opposition is to be held on Friday, December 2, at 4:00 pm.
