PROSECUTOR GENERAL OFFICE THREATENS WITH CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY THOSE PLANNING TO BOYCOTT NOV 27 CONSTITUTIONAL REFERENDUM

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 25. ARMINFO. Armenia’s Prosecutor General Agvan Hovsepyan held a meeting on the Nov 27 constitutional referendum today.

He instructed regional and communal prosecutors to quickly react to any signals of suffrage violation before and after the referendum. All conditions should be created for the free _expression of the people’s will, Hovsepyan said noting that some political parties and figures are pushing electoral commissioners to crime.

To remind, a number of opposition parties particularly Justice bloc and National Unity party are going to boycott the referendum and with work of electoral commissions.

Hovsepyan said that electoral commissioners are given wages from the state budget, enjoy privileges and are civil servants after all. If this was a political action the prosecutor general office would never interfere. But the question is about shifting responsibility onto other commissioners which can violate voters’ rights and impede the whole voting process. So any commissioner shirking his duties will be first warned and then even prosecuted.
