Armenia Made Important Steps To Execute Its Commitments To CE

Yerevan, November 21. /Arka/. During its 5-year membership in the Council of Europe (CE), Armenia has made important steps toward executing its commitments to the CE, Head of the CE Yerevan office Bozhana Urumova told reporters.

According to her, the abolition of death penalty is the most important of these steps. Armenia has also ratified about 20 CE conventions and improved its election laws and amended the Law on rallies and demonstrations.

On the other hand, Urumova said that Armenia still needs amending, especially in the judicial system and mass media rights. She stressed that Armenia joined the CE in 2001. However, it does not mean that old CE members have no problems, and faults must be eliminated, Urumova said.
