Armenian economic delegation visits Aras Economic Zone

Members of the Armenian Republic economic delegation visited Aras Economic Zone in Julfa and examined common grounds for cooperation in the area.

The Head of Armenian joint economic and border commission, Artashes Tumanxan and Armenia’s Minister of Energy Armen Moussessian, in a meeting with the Iranian members of the commission, reiterated the need for expansion of mutual economic ties and joint investment in Aras Free Economic Zone.

After inspecting the factories and producers in Julfa and assessment of the economic potentials of the zone, members of the visiting Armenian delegation called for collaboration with the provincial industrial units and producers.

Meanwhile, they toured the executive operations of the project on transfer of natural gas from Iran to Armenia currently underway in the area.

Following inspection of the historical Saint Stepanus Church in the border city of Julfa, the delegation left for Tehran to hold talks with high-ranking officials.

With a 3.2 million population, the Armenian Republic is one of the republics, which gained independence after the disintegration of the former Soviet Union and has a common border with Iran.

Nourdouz and Julfa are the common border points in the Armenian Republic and Iran’s northwestern East Azarbaijan province.
