Official Baku Interested in Continuing talks between Azeri and Armenian Leaders

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Official Baku is interested in a recurrent meeting of Azeri and Armenian Presidents over peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, stated Novruz Mamedov, the head of the Foreign Policy Section of the Executive Staff of the Azeri President. He remarked «he did not receive information on OSCE MG urging Aliyev-Kocharian meeting in January 2006, as stated by the President of Armenia.» «Maybe he had received that news via some channels, however I do not have a proposal like that. However if there is any proposals, we are undoubtedly interested in a meeting of that kind. After the Kazan meeting the Azeri President is resolute in continuing consultations like those,» Mamedov said, reported Trend agency.

It should be reminded that during yesterday’s meeting with the Armenian community of Greece Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated that the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs the other day in the written form called upon the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan to hold a meeting in January 2006. “I really see the possibility to get things moving although we have not set ourselves a task to hurry in settling the issue. If an acceptable option of Karabakh conflict settlement appears it would be unreasonable to miss such a chance,” Robert Kocharian said.

It should also be noted that according to a statement made by OSCE MG Russian Co-Chair Yuri Merzlyakov earlier, the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs urged the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents to organize meetings during the mediators’ visit to the region. In his words, in the address to the leaders of both states the mediators also said they wished to hold private meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan. The meetings may be held in Ljubljana December 5-6.
