YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 8. ARMINFO. Ornithologists and veterinary surgeons state that mortality of wild bird and poultry is caused by mere bird cholera.
The Head of the Veterinary Inspection of the Ministry for Agriculture, Gevorg Tovmasian reported that daily 60-70 birds die near the border of Armenia and Iran. He denied that the birds were infected by bird flu, as no H5N1 virus was detected in result of laboratory research. Mr. Tovmasian reported that 50.000 doses of anti-cholera vaccine has been purchased and still 551.000 doses will be purchased from Russia. One dose is enough for vaccination of one bird.
The experts are sure that the bird flu panic was provoked in the interests of economic competition. The fact is that the prices and demand for poultry products are going down in the world market. In Armenia the demand for poultry has decreased by 30% recently.
