USAID cooperates with Armenian parliament in four directions

“15 years ago Armenia chose the way of market economy and democracy. The US Agency of International Development (USAID) made an uneasy decision to assist Armenia in choosing primary programs,” said USAID Mission Director in Armenia Robin Phillips at the international forum “Perspectives of Parliamentary Development in democratic conditions” that opened in Yerevan.

As a REGNUM correspondent informs, according to Phillips, the USAID has a long story of relations with the Armenian parliament in four principal directions: development of civil society institutions, lobbying of people interest in parliament, analysis of the lawmaking process and supervision over the executive power. “We will develop our cooperation to keep the parliament open. Our program helps the deputies to feel themselves responsible to the citizens,” said Phillips. He also stressed that this cooperation would not have been possible without the good will of the Armenian parliament.

The events to honor the 15th anniversary of the Armenian parliament are currently taking place in Yerevan.
