YEREVAN, OCTOBER 28, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian embassy in Washington DC said defense minister Serzh Sarkisian delivered a speech at Washington Carnegie Foundation on October 27 attended by Pentagon officials, foreign diplomats and experts.
Sarkisian was also welcomed the same day by Washington-based National Defense University for a round table discussion on South Caucasian security issues. The embassy said Sarkisian dwelt in his speech on US-Armenian relations, the ongoing democratic process in Armenia, its foreign policy basics, as well as on prospects for development of Armenia’s relations with its regional neighbors.
Sarkisian said South Caucasus countries could make significant progress only by joint efforts. In a reference to the Karabakh conflict regulation, he underscored the role of the OSCE Minsk group.
Sarkisian was then welcomed by the National Press Club to meet with journalists. He also met Congressman Jim Colby, to discuss US aid to Armenia, regional developments and Karabakh conflict. A reception was given at Pentagon on October 27 evening in his honor. Today Armenian defense minister is scheduled to meet US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
