October 24 a group of Armenian journalists, who were returning from a regional conference held in Gudauri were ”taken hostage” at the distance of 50 km from Tbilisi, since the residents of the inhabited locality of Zhinvali blocked the Military-Georgian highway.
With this move the residents protested against living without electricity. Over the debts the energy network administration deprived the settlement of electricity a month ago.
Police units and a deputy of Georgian parliament elected by the region arrived at the scene however the energy network chief refused to speak with the demonstrators.
After 1.5-hour negotiations the protesters agreed to let the Armenian journalists pass.
