Armenia’s Defense Chief Holds Meetings in Kansas

A delegation led by Armenian Defense Minister and National Security Council Secretary Serzh Sarkisian on Monday held meetings with the adjutant-general of the US state of Kansas, National Guards Head, Major-General Todd Banting and Vice-Governor Dennis More.

During the Sarkisian-Banting meeting the sides reportedly discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation both in the sphere of peacekeeping and military medicine.

“The sides also spoke about the operation of the Armenian peacekeeping unit in Iraq as specialists from Kansas showed great assistance in the preparation of the unit,” the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry reports. “At the beginning of his meeting with Vice-Governor Dennis More, Serzh Sarkisian expressed his gratitude to the administration of the state for declaring April 24 a day of remembrances of Armenians.”

“Armenia is a very important country and it was such in the world history. You were the first to embrace Christianity, were the first country that declared independence after quitting the Soviet Union. We are open in the matter of providing you with any expertise and assistance. I simply want to tell you that we also learn things from you,” Vice-Governor Dennis More emphasized.

“Since the first day of our independence the United States has given us great assistance towards strengthening our independence, establishing democratic norms and solving vital problems of the people. We are confident that with U.S. assistance we will be able to build a more independent, prosperous and better country,” Serzh Sarkisian said for his part.
