120 Singers From 7 Countries Will Participate In First International Caucasian Festival Of Ashugh Art

cultural union jointly with UNESCO will hold the first Caucasian
international festival of ashugh art in Armenia dedicated to the
210th anniversary of Sayat-Nova's death and 10th anniversary of
union's foundation. The festival will be held on October 24-26 with
participation of 120 singers from Armenia, Georgia, the US, Russia,
Spain, Iran and Turkey.

As Tovmas Poghosian, Chairman of the "Sayat-Nova" cultural union,
informed at the October 21 press conference, Turkey will be represented
at the festival by a dudukist and singer Serbil Kelech, both of them
are of Armenian origin. The latter, striving for returning to her
roots, adopted Christianity.

The solemn opening of the festival will take place in the "Moscow"
cinema. A number of concerts will be held in different Armenian
regions, exhibitions will open, conferences dedicated to ashugh art
will be held within the framework of the festival. A festivity of
Sayat-Nova roses will be held for the first time on October 26 in
Yerevan, near the monument to Sayat-Nova.
