On Monday morning, 17 October 2005, His Beatitude Mesrob II, Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul and All Turkey, received His Grace Archbishop Hovhannes Cholakyan, the spiritual leader of the Armenian Catholics of Turkey. Archbishop Cholakyan was accompanied by the Revd. Father Hagopos Chopuryan, one of the co-presidents of the organizing committee for the celebration of the 1600th anniversary of the Armenian alphabet, and the committee chairperson, Dr. Mardiros Yeniyorgan. The Revd. Dr. Krikor Damatyan, the Chancellor of the Armenian Patriarchate was also present.
In their meeting, they shared ideas on the 1600th anniversary celebration. The Patriarch recommended that the concluding service for the celebrations be held in the Armenian Catholic Church on Sunday morning, 19 February 2006. Pleased to accept this recommendation, Archbishop Cholakyan asked Patriarch Mesrob to deliver the homily at that service.
It is not yet certain when the 1600th anniversary celebration ceremony to be organized by the Aynalicheshme Armenian Evangelical Church will be held.
A concert by the Istanbul Armenian United Choir, under the direction of Sevan Shencan, will be given at the conclusion of the 1600th anniversary celebrations on Monday evening, 20 February 2006.
