IRAN NOT ANTI-ARMENIAN

“Iran – U.S. conflict won’t limit to hostilities”, – participants of discussions on Armenian-Irani relations foretold today in the Armenian Center for National and International Studies.

According to lecturer of Yerevan State University iranology chair Vardan Voskanyan, the reasons of the above-mentioned are the territory of Iran and its secular state system. Iranologist Emma Begijanyan thinks this is not included into U.S. plans, e.g. hostilities against Iraq were programmed from the very beginning. Both speakers consider that newly-elected conservative president’s officiating won’t influence Armenian-Irani relations. «Irani president’s being conservative does not suggest his being anti-Armenian. Iran has a formed state tradition and the system works in there. Replacement of the president has a very little influence on the general activity», – Vardan Voskanyan said to «A1+».

Iranologist supposes that the influence of Armenian community is considerable as regards Armenian-Irani rеlаtions, yet “it can’t be appreciated as rather high”. Cultural relations have been developed during the last 10 years which can’t be said about economic ones.

Representative of analytical centre “Agreement”, ex-mayor of Yerevan Vahagn Khachatryan noted that we are not really using our only window to the world – Iran; commodity circulation between the two countries is rather low.

Reasons for that as considered by Mr. Khachatryan are different, and one of them is the all but impassability of the southern roads of Armenia.
