YEREVAN, September 2. /ARKA/. From December 2005, the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) will start publishing indices of business activity, business environment and consumer confidence, the CBA press service reports. Such indices are calculated and published in many countries and inform politicians, analysts and businessmen of economic plans and current economic situation.
The business activity index is a final assessment of the real situation and expected activity in various economic sectors. It is calculated on the basis of respondents’ assessments of production output, orders and actual and expected changes in production reserves.
The business environment index is an index of economic situation. This index will provide a complete picture of the general economic situation in Armenia and economic changes. It is based on economic entities’ expectations of business risks and general economic situation.
The consumer confidence index is an overall assessment of consumers (households), their expected incomes, expenses, employment changes and economic situation.
The indices will be published quarterly. In the 3rd quarter of 2005 a survey was conducted which involved 350 enterprises and about 700 households specializing in industry, construction and services in Yerevan, Kotayk, Ararat, Armair, Tavush, Lori and Gegharkunik. P.T. -0–
