6 ARMENIAN PILOTS AMNESTIED IN EQUATORIAL GUINEA ARRIVED IN MOSCOW

MOSCOW, JUNE 10. ARMINFO. The 6 Armenian pilots amnestied in Equatorial Guinea have arrived in Moscow.

Equatorial Guinean Ambassador to Russia Fausto Bobetta says in an interview to RFE/RL that the main thing is that the president of Equatorial Guinea – “a kind man” – has let the pilots free.

The pilots came to Moscow from Zurich. They look emaciated and not very healthy but they are very happy to be able to see their families again. They do not believe this is happening to them as they have long lost any hope for return. But the efforts of Armenia’s FM and President of World Armenian Congress Ara Abrahamyan restored their hopes.

RFE/RL reports that Armenian Ambassador to Russia Armen Smbatyan was not present at the pilots’ press conference in ITAR-TASS office in Moscow. Not having found his name on the list of those invited Smbatyan had reportedly left the building.

To remind, the pilots faced 14-24 years in prison for alleged complicity in a coup in Equatorial Guinea but were amnestied June 11.
