BEFORE LIQUIDATION OF BREAKDOWN AT 9TH POWER UNIT, TELASI TO INCREASE IMPORT OF ELECTRICITY FROM ARMENIA BY 50 MEGAWATT

TBILISI, FEBRUARY 25, ARMINFO-BLACK SEA PRESS. In connection with heavy situation in the electricity sector in Georgia, the whole-sale market of electricity in that country will establish new limits for generation and use of electricity in the country on February 25. In connection with a breakdown at the 9th power unit of Mktvari Energy company, the electricity system in Georgia is deprived of 200 megawatt electricity. Proceeding from this, the whole-sale market of electricity has to limit electricity supply to the whole country. At present the market establishes the volumes of limitations. The 9th power unit’s work will be restored on 1 March.

The electricity imported from Russia and Armenia totals 580 megawatt in average. Before the breakdown is liquidated, Telasi will increase electricity import from Armenia by 50 megawatt. The generation and import of electricity in Georgia total 1,280 megawatt, which will not satisfy the demand for 1,480 megawatt. The limitations will be effective as long as the breakdown at 9th unit is not liquidated.
