Armenian group donates 12-thousand-500 books to Glendale library

GLENDALE, Calif. The American Armenian International College has donated 12-thousand-500 hard-to-find Armenian books to a Glendale library. The trustees hope the large number of Armenians in the city will read them.

The donation places the library among those with the largest Armenian-language collections in the country, according to library experts. The books include pocket-sized paperbacks by the “Shakespeare of Armenia” _ author Hovhannes Tumanian.

The volumes include stories about King Argishti the First, who lived in the 8th century B-C. and books about generals, colonels and soldiers who fought in the Red Army during the Russian Revolution. It also includes anthologies of Armenian poetry.

The college is based in La Verne.
