ARMENIA´S FOREIGN MINISTER WELCOMES EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT’S ADOPTING RESOLUTION ON BEGINNING OF NEGOTIATIONS WITH TURKEY ON ACCESSION TO EU

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 15. ARMINFO. Minister of foreign affairs of Armenia Vardan Oskanian has welcomed the European Parliament’s adopting the Resolution concerning the issue on the beginning of negotiations with Turkey on accession to the EO, which in a number of other issues includes the necessity of Turkey’s admitting the Genocide of Armenians and lifting the blockade with the Armenian border.

As the foreign minister stated in the interview to Public Television of Armenia, the resolution approves the sooner beginning of the negotiations, but with several terms. “For us in the political plan it is more important the fact that these conditions also include the issue of the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border and recognition of the Genocide of Armenia”, the foreign minister of Armenia pointed out. According to him, this is a very important political document and it, in fact, calls on the European Commission when adoption of the resolution to take into account these conditions of the European parliament. “If at the first stage Turkey does not bring to conformity the political criteria, including the relations with Armenia, then it is not excepted that the negotiations will be broken off”, he mentioned, adding that the resolution is the joint victory of the Armenian diplomacy and the communities of the diaspora, in particular, of European Armenian organizations.
