AZERI FOOTBALL FEDERATION PROTESTS AGAINST PARTICIPATION OF KARABAKH TEAM IN ARMENIA´S CHAMPIONSHIP

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 30. ARMINFO. Azeri Football Federation is protesting against the participation of a team from Karabakh in Armenia’s championship.

In a letter to UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olssen AFF Secretary General Fuad Asadov says that “being inalienable part of Azerbaijan Karabakh holds its own football championship while its Lernain Artsakh team from Hankendi (meaning Stepanakert) plays in Armenia’s first league.” “Armenian Football Federation has refuted the information and their secretary general Armen Minosyan has assured his UEFA counterparts that this is a lie.” “But it has turned out that it is Armenia who is lying: Nov 19-26 2004 the Football weekly (Russia) published the final standings of Karabakh’s championship noting that Lernain Artsakh has got the right to take part in the first league of Armenia’s championship.”

“This is against FIFA and UEFA principles and international football laws. A club from occupied Azeri territories cannot take part in Armenia’s championship.” “Azeri Football Federation is asking UEFA to inquire into the situation and to prevent Lernain Artsakh from playing in Armenia’s championship.”
