Statistics say 2,467 were born and 1,786 died for last nine months in Armenian province of Shirak struck by devastating earthquake in1988.
Birth rate rose 3,7 percent comparing to previous year.
Figures show precipitous fluctuations in the birth rate in post-quake period. The birth peaked at the highest rate in 1991. After that, it became going down.
Officials say there was a year, when the birth rate was equal to the death rate and even lower.
The birth rate began to rise in the quake-stricken region in 2002. But at the same time, the death rate went up.
Shirak’s population dies mostly from malignant tumours and heart diseases.
