VARDAN OSKANIAN – IS NOT GOOD MAN, AND ROBERT KOCHARIAN PROMISED TO GIVE MEGRI TO AZERBAIJAN

BAKU, OCTOBER 14. ARMINFO-TURAN: The Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian should stop insinuation concerning Key West meeting of Heydar Aliyev and Robert Kocharian. This is how the press-secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan Metin Mirza commented on recent address of Vardan Oskanian on the Armenian television. The Armenian Minister with great persistence “mystifies” the talks in Key West and states that then they obtained that Karabakh will not be in the structure of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan again offers Oskanian to stop “games” around Key West where ” no any agreements were obtained”. The statements of Oskanian are treated in Baku as an attempt to undermine the trust of Azerbaijan and to present it as a country not fulfilling the agreement. In this respect, the Azerbaijani side reminds that the agreement on stage by stage settlement of the Karabakh conflict was obtained on October 10, 1997 in Strasbourg between Heydar Aliyev and Ter-Petrosian. However, the “militarist circles” of Armenia dismissed Ter-Petrosian and successfully “buried” the obtained agreement.

Besides, the president R. Kocharian gave “principal agreement” to the variant of settlement “with passing part of the territory of Armenia to Azerbaijan”. But later “sudden” shooting took place in the Armenian parliament and Kocharian distanced from the agreement motivating it by aggravation of the political situation in the country. These facts testify that just the Armenian side distances from the obtained agreements.

The comment notes that the Azeri side will not allow revision of the international law and “will not give even smallest part of its land”. The territory of Nagorno Karabakh “cannot be the subject of compromise” and remains “integral” part of Azerbaijan. The subject for compromise may become the status of the region which can be determined with consideration of the European experience of self-control.

The Azerbaijani side believes that the statements of Oskanian were caused by “personal and internal political motives”.It can be the attempt to break certain progress obtained at the meetings in Prague.
