ARMENIAN PATRIARCHATE OF CONSTANTINOPLE OFFERS TURKISH GOVERNMENT TO OPEN CHAIR OF ARMENOLOGY

The Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople has many times offered the Turkish government to establish a chair of Armenology in one of the state universities of Istanbul, Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople Mesrop Mutafian told journalists adding that Armenian ecclesiastics and teachers could receive education there. “We think that at the time when Turkey is developing activities with the EU some improvements are to take place in this sphere as well”, the Patriarch said. He noted that the Armenian community counting over 65 000 – 70 000 out of 100 000 Christians – is the most numerous non-Muslim community in Turkey.
