armenialiberty: Aliev, Kocharian Meet At European Summit

(AFP) – The presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia met on Wednesday on the sidelines of a European economic summit to discuss their countries’ estrangement over the ethnic conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a diplomat told AFP.

“They had a constructive discussion. They have agreed to meet again. No date was set,” the source told AFP after what was only the second meeting between Azeri President Ilham Aliev and his Armenian counterpart Robert Kocharian.

The diplomatic source said the Warsaw meeting was also attended by the whole of the so-called Minsk Group, a 13-nation grouping within the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) that has been seeking to mediate between the two sides.

Lingering tensions over the conflict have caused instability in the region, an emerging key crossroads for oil exports from the Caspian Sea to Western markets.
