panarmenian: ANKARA AGAIN INITIATES TRILATERAL MEETING OF FOREIGN MINISTERS OF ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN AND TURKEY

Turkey is holding negotiations with Azerbaijan and Armenia to hold a trilateral meeting on settlement of the Karabakh conflict. As reported by Turan Azeri information agency, Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul stated yesterday when commenting on the opportunity of opening the border between Armenia and Turkey before the Karabakh conflict is settled. In his words, Turkey tries to play the role of a catalyst and wishes for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. In Gul’s words, the trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers may be held before the NATO Istanbul Summit scheduled in June. Meanwhile, when commenting on the message of his Turkish counterpart, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Vardan Oskanian stated that Armenia will agree to participate in the meeting if regional issues, bilateral relations and the Karabakh conflict are discussed there. In the Minister’s opinion, meeting solely to discuss the Karabakh problem does not make sense, as “Turkey cannot be an impartial mediator in this matter.”
