YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 17. ARMINFO. 10 of 1,480 schools have been closed and 4,600 teachers dismissed as a result of the optimization of Armenia’s education sphere, says Armenia’s Education and Science Minister Sergo Yeritsyan.
He says that the buildings of the closed schools will be used exclusively for educational needs – for teachers retraining centers. The dismissed teachers will receive a total compensation of $2 mln – as lump sums, retraining tuitions or even for starting up their small businesses.
The directors of some schools are reported to collect 500-1,000 AMD a month from each of their employees to support the dismissed teachers “to prevent them from poverty until the government takes any steps to support them.”-
