GYUMRI, FEBRUARY 17, ARMENPRESS: The northern branch of Armenian national seismic service, deployed in the town of Gyumri, has started an extensive examination of local urban and rural housing resources to identify the level of their seismic resistance. The massive examination was started at the request of the government following a substantial growth in the number of houses, mainly in rural areas, which their owners claim to be affected by earthquakes. Local social security authorities explain the growth by owners’ desire to be listed as beneficiaries to social aid by citing their poor housing conditions, supported by fake documents
