panarmenian: ARMENIAN AND TURKISH HISTORIANS TO MEET IN VIENNA IN AUTUMN

Viennese Armenian-Turkish Platform organization plans to arrange a meeting of Armenian and Turkish historians in the Austrian capital in autumn 2004. As director of the Armenian Genocide Museum, doctor of historical sciences Lavrenty Barseghian told Arminfo agency, the Armenian party has already been invited to participate in the meeting. In his words, the cover letter accompanying the invitation noted that the main goal of the meeting is to establish Armenian-Turkish dialogue based on scientific methods and evaluations. Specifically, archive materials of 1915 will become a subject of discussion. As noted in the letter, the parties have to submit a package of necessary documents to the Viennese organization, which will later be passed for examination by the other party. In L. Barseghian’s words, the Armenian party intends to present materials from German and Austrian archives. Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Ashot Melkonian will leave for Vienna as part of the Armenian delegation. Director of the Research and Historical Museum of Turkey, professor Yusuf Alachoghlu and head of the Armenian department of the same Institute Hikmet Ozdemir will represent the Turkish party in Vienna. Austrian experts will also participate in the meeting.
