armenpress: PRIME MINISTER TO FLY TO STOCKHOLM FOR GENOCIDE CONFERENCE

YEREVAN, JANUARY 23, ARMENPRESS: An Armenian delegation, led by prime minister Andranik Margarian that will also include deputy foreign affairs minister Ruben Shugarian, Armenian ambassador to Sweden Vladimir Karmirshalian and heads of foreign ministry departments, will leave January 25 for the Sweden’s capital of Stockholm to participate in an international conference on stopping and preventing genocide.

The conference, hosted by the Swedish government, is called “Stockholm International Forum: Preventing Genocide; Threats and Responsibilities” will be attempting to address these and similar questions, drawing from various disciplines and subject areas, as well as from research and personal experience.

As of January 23 representatives of 58 countries have confirmed their participation, many of these delegations will be led by the heads of state and government. The first Stockholm conference on Genocide was held in 2000 adopting a declaration on teaching and investigating the Holocaust.

The King of Sweden, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, senior officials of the EU will attend the opening ceremony. On the sidelines of the conference Armenian prime minister is expected to have meetings with Swedish prime minister Goran Person, Swedish foreign minister Mrs. Laila Freivalds, as well as with members of the Armenian community.
