On Friday, January 16, the Turkish television program Objective will be having Atom Egoyan, director of the critically acclaimed film Ararat, as a guest. The talk show is broadcast on the Star television station. Viewers will be able to call in to the show to speak to Egoyan during the interview. On January 15, Objective devoted two hours to a similar broadcast, whose subject was the Armenians and the film Ararat, in particular. Kadir Celik, the host of the program, discussed the Genocide and made many negative comments regarding France and its recognition of the Genocide. During that broadcast, a representative of the French embassy in Turkey telephoned the show. An angry discussion ensued between the host and the representative, and the host abruptly hung up on the caller. The caller had insisted that in order for Turkey to gain entrance into the European Union, it must first recognize the Armenian Genocide.
