armenpress: NATIONAL PICTURE GALLERY TO ADMIT VISITORS IN FEW DAYS

Armenian National Picture Gallery, boasting one of the richest depository of paintings among other CIS countries, is going to admit visitors after an 18 month-long break. The Gallery has undergone a major repair on US-based Lincy Foundation’s money.

The deputy director of the Gallery, Hasmik Harutunian, said the reopening will be marked by a big display of Armenian graphic art. She also said the space for the display of many works kept in the depository has enlarged after several windows in it were closed. She also said the repair has allowed to organize a permanent display of many works of contemporary Armenian artists. Special halls will be dedicated to Armenian applied arts. The Gallery is preparing now an album that will represent the best works kept in it. Also special rooms will be dedicated to displaying Chinese works of art. Ms. Harutunian said the Iranian embassy in Yerevan had contributed to organization of a special hall dedicated to Iranian art and also Armentel telephone company that has helped to better organizers sections, dedicated to Old Greece and Egypt.
