YEREVAN, DECEMBER 12. ARMINFO. The specialists of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NASA) are going accept the invitation of Vienna University to meet with their Turkish counterparts from Turkish History Institution (TTK) next Aug to discuss “the events of 1915”
The Armenian Genocide Museum Lavrenty Barsegyan says that the Armenian side does not object against such a meeting “but we are against discussing the very fact of the Armenian Genocide. We are going to use the meeting as one more opportunity to speak about the consequences the Genocide has had for the Armenian people.”
Barsegyan notes that the Armenian side has never refused to take part in such meetings as “our refusal could have been misinterpreted and availed of by the opposite side.” If the Armenian side says yes to the meeting attending it will be Barsegyan and the director of NASA History Institute Ashot Melkonyan.
According to Milliyet, the Turkish side is also willing to take part in the meeting. TTK Chairman Prof. Dr. Yusuf Halacoglu and Desk Chairman Prof. Dr. Hikmet Ozdemir are expected to represent the Turkish side.
