arminfo: TURKISH LAWYER APPEALS TO EUROPEAN HUMAN RIGHTS COURT AGAINST FRANCE´S DECISION TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 8. ARMINFO. The European Human Rights Court is considering the appeal by the Turkish lawyer Orhan Pekmezgi against the French parliament’s decision (Jan 18 2001) to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

According to Turkish sources, the court demands that the lawyer should shortly file his arguments against the decision.

Pekmezgi says that the decision has no legal grounds “for it was the Turks rather than the Armenians who were subjected to genocide.” Besides, the decision contradicts the European Human Rights Convention, the French legislation and the norms of the international law. Pekmezji also demands dismantling the Paris monument to the Armenian composer Komitas.
