YEREVAN, OCTOBER 27. ARMINFO. Today some Armenian MPs laid flowers on the memorial stone to the victims of the Oct 27 terrorist act in the Armenian parliament.
Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Artur Bagdassaryan said that it was a great loss for the Armenian state and people. Stepan Demirtchyan, son of the killed speaker of the Armenian Parliament Karen Demirtchyan, said that no final detection of the case is possible under the rule of the actual government. “They have done their best to turn the Oct 27 trial into a farce.” Demirtchyan noted that after the elections the authorities instructed the court to finish the trial as soon as possible. In the next few days the lawyer of the Demirtchyan family is going to make an official statement on the issue.
The leader of the RPA parliamentary faction Galust Saakyan said that even gallows would be a mild punishment for the perpetrators of the act. He said that the act was organized by forces outside Armenia.
The organizers will be detected only if “strong and powerful statehood is established in Armenia.”
Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Vahan Hovhannissyan said that the trial has dragged on for much too long a period. As a result, people worldwide have begun to associate Armenia with the Oct 27 act. He said that the perpetrators of the act must be sentenced to the most severe punishment in Armenia, life in prison.
The Justice opposition bloc has already drafted a bill excluding the possibility of amnesty for the criminals.
To remind, Oct 27 1999 a group of terrorists killed Armenia’s prime minister, speaker of the Armenian Parliament, his two deputies and four MPs.
