YEREVAN, OCTOBER 9, ARMENPRESS: A joint press conference with participation of former and acting directors of “Hayastan ” Pan-Armenian Fund Vahan Ter-Ghevondian and Naira Melkumian respectively was held today to present the programs carried out by the Fund during the last four years and ten months. According to the former director, the Fund’s overall raised proceeds amounted to $ 21,729,214. With the help of this sum road building programs were implemented in Nagorno Karabagh and provinces of Armenia, particularly the strategic highway Goris-Stepanakert was repaired and South-North highway in Karabagh is being built. In his words, $ 5 million funds are raised annually.
During the above mentioned period, 42 educational, 6 health care programs were implemented as well as 116 private houses were built and reconstructed. By means of the fund, 7 culture houses and 1 medieval church were reconstructed, 5 gas pipelines were built. Programs of social and cultural nature were also implemented; annual cash benefits for children of perished or disabled freedom fighters, support to art workers, aid to needy families directed towards the rise of birth rate. Stating the importance of a joint press conference of former and acting directors of the fund, Vahan Ter-Ghevondian informed that from now on he is going to be engaged in diplomatic work and is appointed advisor to Armenian foreign minister.
The new director of “Hayastan Pan-Armenian Fund Naira Melkumian said the Fund will elaborate a program of reforms till May, which is to put a start to the new phase of the Fund’s activity. The reforms suppose elaboration of mechanisms for propaganda and fund raising and raising the effectiveness of its chapters. She stated that they foresee to establish cooperation with all Armenian organizations, including the World Armenians’ Union. In her words, the Pan-Armenian Fund’s goal is to create an opportunity for all compatriots to take part in restoration and development of Armenia and Nagorno Karabagh. In her words, an attempt to more develop the carried out work for the good of the Armenian nation is going to be made.
