armenpress: TRADE BALANCE IN THE FIRST SIX MONTHS WAS NEGATIVE

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS: According to figures, released by national statistics service, Armstat, Armenia’s foreign trade turnover in the first six months of the year amounted to 1.099 bln US Dollars, of which $372.9 million were exports, by $109.1 million more than in the first six months of 2002.

The import volume also increased by $231.6 million, standing at $727 million with the negative trade balance amounting to $354.2 million.

About 24 percent of foreign trade turnover fell on CIS countries and 16 percent of it on Russia. Trade turnover volume with EU member countries rose to 30 percent. Armenia’s biggest trade partner was Israel (17.3 percent), Belgium (13.8 percent) (import and processing of raw diamonds). The share of Israel rose against the first six months of last year by 284 percent.
