The number of NKR population by July 1, 2003 was 145.6 thousand and
increased from the beginning of the year by 0.4 %. In the months
January – June of 2003 989 children were born in NKR, which in
comparison to the same period of the last year is less by 23 children
or 2.3 %. The natural growth of the population in the republic was 357
people, which has decreased from the same period of the last year by
2.2 % or 8 people. In the same period 625 people arrived in NKR and
409 left it. Thus, the mechanical growth of the population is 216
people, informs the NKR National Statistics Service. In the republic
the number of the third and more children born in the families in the
first half of 2003 is 260, less by 25 children or 8.8 % compared to
last year. For these children bank accounts of 242 000 US dollars were
opened by the project of stimulating birthrate against 271 600 US
dollars of the first half of 2002. In the first half of 2003 the
families having five or more children under 18 received monthly
material compensation for 60 kWh per one child. Thus, 1429 children of
258 families received material compensation of a total of 7434.2
thousand drams, against 7382.6 thousand drams paid to 1417 children of
258 families last year. In the first half of 2003 14 families having 7
or more children under 18 living in regions were registered, for whom
houses will be built within a year. By July 1, 2003 the number of
children receiving benefit totaled 15 828, and from last year reduced
by 142 children or 0.9 %. The size of the monthly benefit for children
totaled 2153 drams against 2162 drams last year. These data were
