Yerevan, 5 August: Eighteen people have applied for refugee status
over the last six months. The head of the public relations department
of the UNHCR in Armenia, Emil Saakyan, has told our agency that
the applications of four people were rejected and two cases were
closed. The remaining appeals are being considered by the Armenian
government department for migration and refugees.
Fourteen refugees are from Iraq and others from Iran, Kazakhstan
and Georgia. In all, 242,454 refugees have been registered in
Armenia. Another 54,000 refugees have adopted (Armenian) citizenship.
