SYDNEY, June 13 — Australia’s Armenian-born flyweight Vic Darchinyan
produced the most impressive performance of his professional boxing
career and remained on track for a world title bout with a fourth round
stoppage of former world strawweight champion Wandee Chor Chareon at
Auburn RSL tonight.

Darchinyan improved his perfect professional record to 17 wins and
retained the International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific title against
his fellow top 10 ranked opponent.

He knocked down Chareon three times in the fourth round, to force
an automatic stoppage and inflict only the sixth loss in 45 bouts on
his opponent.

The first knockdown came from a head shot while the others were the
result of body rips.

It was the first professional stoppage loss for Chareon who earlier
this year was outpointed over 12 rounds by Australia’s other world
ranked flyweight and Darchinyan’s stablemate Hussein Hussein.

Darchinyan’s trainer Jeff Fenech said he wanted the Armenian 2000
Olympic representatives to challenge IBF world champion Irene Pacheco.
