panarmenian: ARMENIA READY TO RENDER FREE LONG-TERM VISAS TO IRAQI ARMENIANS

We are concerned about the war in Iraq, as we have a rather large community residing in Baghdad and Basr, as well as in regions inhabited by Kurds. Deputy minister of foreign affairs of Armenia Ruben Shugarian told “Media.am” information center. In his words, in spite of certain difficulties, the Armenian foreign ministry constantly keeps in touch with the community centers in Iraq. “We possess data that in Jordan there is a large accumulation of Armenian families, who had left Iraq before the military operations commenced. A few tens of families are also in Aleppo and still less – in Lebanon,” – R. Shugarian said. Thereupon, in his words, Armenian ambassador to Syria left for Jordan to collect additional information. The deputy minister reported about availability of a few requests to get residence permits. “We are ready to render free long-term visas to our compatriots,” – he stated. We now need additional information, which we collect not only via our diplomatic representations, but also via the church and community structures, the deputy foreign minister noted.
