armenialiberty: 18 PARTIES AND 6 ALLIANCES TO RUN FOR PARLIAMENT

YEREVAN, MARCH 18, ARMENPRESS: Armenia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) said 18 parties and 6 alliances have submitted official documents by 6.pm March 16 deadline, to run for next May 25 parliamentary elections under proportional electoral system (by party lists).

The biggest electoral list is submitted by the Justice alliance comprising the People’s party of Armenia, the Hanrapetutyun party, the National Democratic Union, the Constitutional Right Union and other minor parties. The slate is topped by the defeated presidential candidate Stepan Demirchian, Aram Sarkisian and Vazgen Manukian. It has a total of 137 names.

The next biggest slate is that of the Republican party of prime minister Andranik Margarian that has 120 names. Atop of the list are Margarian himself, defense minister Serzh Sarkisian and deputy parliament speaker Tigran Torosian.

The list of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF, Dashnaktsutyun) has 101 names and is topped by Vahan Hovhanesian, Armen Rustamian and chief of president Kocharian’s administration Artashes Tumanian.

The electoral list of the National Union of Artashes Geghamian has 77 names. The slates of other parties have from 70 to 10 names. Under Armenia’s Election Code the electoral list is to be supported by 30,000 citizens signatures.
