ria oreanda: Armenian Opposition To Possibly Appeal To European Court

Yerevan. In case the Constitutional Court does not satisfy the appeal
of the Armenian opposition concerning the declaration of the
Presidential Elections invalidity, the opposition members will appeal
to the European Court. The Chairman of the opposition party
“Republic”, Albert Bazeyan made this statement at the press
conference, RIA “Oreanda” correspondents report. Additionally, he
pointed out that the opposition intends to appeal to the
Constitutional Court on March 14, 2003.

In the words of Bazeyan, the Armenian opposition plans to continue
“the struggle for justice”, as the constitutional resources are not
yet exhausted. “The Constitutional Court did not discredit itself
with the predilection for the authorities in the course of the
Presidential Elections in contrast to the Central Election
Commission”, the leader of “republic” said.

Since February 20, 2003 the opposition is holding the meetings into
support of the former candidate for Presidency, the Armenian People’s
party leader, Stepan Demirchyan. The participants of the meetings
claim for declaration of the Presidential Elections results invalid.
In accordance with the latest data propagated by the Central Election
Committee, the acting President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan is
reelected for Presidency (67.44% votes). At that, 32.56% of Armenia’s
citizens voted for Stepan Demirchyan.
