noyan-tapan: `VOROTAN-ARPA´ TUNNEL TO BE PUT TO SERVICE IN AUGUST

YEREVAN, February 14 (Noyan Tapan). The tunneling and joining works of the first and second passageways of the “Arpa-Sevan” tunnel (the total extent at 21.6km) were completed on February 13. The works were conducted at the depth of 46 meters. The “Arpa-Sevan” tunnel with the depth of 46-293 meters will be put to service by the August, 2003, the tunnel contractor, state-owned organization “Hydrotechnical Constructions” of the Ministry of Urban Development director Sargis Karapetian revealed. The tunnel will enable additional 165 cubic meter water transfer from the Spandarian to Ketchun water reservoirs. The water will consequently be transferred form the Ketchun reservoir to Lake Sevan via the “Arpa-Sevan” tunnel. The construction of the tunnel was launched in 1981 and till 1995 88m Soviet roubles were spent on the construction. Meanwhile, starting 2001 to date the construction company “Arpa-Sevan” completed constuction works amounting to 424,946m drams (around $732m). The construction is fully financed from the RA state budget.
