ArmenPress: SEVAN´S FISH POPULATION TO GROW

YEREVAN, JANUARY 24, ARMENPRESS: The level of Lake Sevan went up by 45 cm in 2002, which is unprecedented in the last decade, Armenia’s ecology ministry said. Daily estimations of the amount of water feeding the lake via Arpa-Sevan tunnel during last year showed that some 300.61 million cubic meters went into it or by 90.2 million cubic meters more than in 2001.

In 2002 Sevan was as well populated by 75,000 fries of a local fish to supplement the lake’s fish resources. Simultaneously, by the ecology minister’s decree, industrial fishing was forbidden during the period of spawning, from November 26 to December 20.

The ministry press division also said that in 2002 special measures were carried out aiming at the maintenance of Sevan National park and efficient utilization of the premises.
